Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
:13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.
:14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
:15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
:16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. {in water via Gods Authority})
:17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
So, in Acts 8 we see two types of baptism: 1. Water baptism and 2. Holy Ghost baptism. In their case they received water baptism first. But not in all cases will it be in that order. There is no scripture that proves which must be done first. You must receive both. Some receive water baptism first and others the Holy Ghost first. But both are instructed!
We also see another account of water baptism in Acts 8:
Acts 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
:36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
:38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
Here is an account of some people having received the baptism of the Holy Ghost first and then received water baptism afterwards:
Acts 10:44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
:45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
:46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
:47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
Baptized with the Holy Ghost? Is that scriptural?
Acts 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
Some More Scriptures for Water Baptism and Holy Ghost Baptism:
Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
1 Cor. 1:13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
:14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
:15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.
:16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.
:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
The 1 Cor. 1 Scriptures plainly show that Paul, Crispus and Gaius did baptize people. However some people might say that Paul said in verse 17 that he wasn't called to baptize. However, please do not miss the point that he did baptize! Please see Wesley Commentary: "1Co 1:17 For God did not send me to baptize - That was not my chief errand: those of inferior rank and abilities could do it: though all the apostles were sent to baptize also, Mat_28:19"
If you accuse me of preaching Salvation through works, then you are also accusing Christ of doing the same thing!!! Be careful fool!!!
The New Testament Scriptures are VERY CLEAR that Christ Commanded Water Baptism and that He also brought with Him Holy Ghost Baptism!
Holy Ghost baptism does NOT automatically mean that you MUST speak in tongues.
Please see our articles on the Holy Ghost and Tongues.
A Chapter I believe every person should read before Water Baptism:
Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
:2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
:8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
:10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
:20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
:21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Dear Brethren,
I say unto you, that those that are preaching and teaching AGAINST water baptism are anti-Christ and you should avoid them at all cost!!! They are wolves in sheeps clothing. They are very very dangerous!!!
Repent and be baptized! We do offer water baptism to repentant Christians during our traveling conferences/crusades and at weekly services.
God Bless You,
In Jesus Name,
Pastor Tim
Footnote: Amazing Edification:
Baptism was orginally done only for Gentiles to convert to Juduism!
The following is quoted from: http://www.fbccs.org/resources/papers/baptism.asp
Q. What type of baptisms were done during the days of Jesus?
A. Jewish proselytes: An Israelite was never baptized by water. They were born under the terms of the covenant God made with Abraham (Genesis 15:1-12). But Gentiles who desired to become identified with the Jewish people entered into the water as an outward symbol of an internal commitment of faith in Jehovah as their one and only living God.
B. John the Baptist - the forerunner of Jesus: He preached a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins in preparation for the coming of the Messiah (Luke 3:3). That water baptism puzzled the Pharisees – the religious teachers of Israel, for they wanted to know what right John had to baptize anyone since he was not the Messiah, the prophet Elijah or the Prophet (John 1:19-34). The Pharisees did know that the Prophet Zechariah had spoken on behalf of God "On that day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness." (13:1). John’s message to Israel was "Repent (of your sins) for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand" (Matt. 3:1-2). The spiritual willingness of some of the Jewish people to repent of their sins was symbolized physically when they allowed John to baptize them in the waters of the Jordan river. The Pharisees were more confused by John’s baptisms because that spiritual ritual was reserved for Gentile proselytes. But John was teaching that the chosen people of God had to be cleansed spiritually in preparation for the coming of the Messiah and the establishment of His Kingdom.
How did the early church baptize new Jewish and Gentile believers?
According to an early first century document "The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles to the Nations" (or The Didache) written by a Jewish Christian (50 AD) to help the new Gentile believers in their spiritual growth we find the following statement: "And as touching baptism, thus baptize: When you first recited all these things (six doctrinal statements already stated early in the Didache) baptize unto the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, in living waters. But if you have not living waters, baptize into other water; and if you cannot in cold, then in warm. And if you have not either, pour forth water three times upon the head, unto the name of the Father and the Son and Holy Spirit. And before the baptism let the baptizer and him that is to be baptized and such others as are able first fast; but bid him that is to be baptized fast one or two days before."
