Legalism Concerning Music

Many times, after people learn the truth and start their obedience to Jesus Christ and start coming out of sinful ways, they become overly ambitious to the point of legalism and believing false doctrine based on legalism. It is great that people are learning and accepting that we must stop watching horror movies, stop listening to hard rock and heavy metal and that we must stop watching Disney movies, etc. It is wonderful that people are waking up to the fact that we must be extremely careful what we allow into our eye gates and ear gates and into our homes. But sometimes, in their attempt to come out of sin, they become overly legalistic and even embrace false doctrines based on their efforts to come out of the world. For example, because many people are now realizing that many of the television evangelists and traditional denominational pastors are not ordained of God and are actually ignorant blind people leading the blind masses of sheep, people are jumping to the wrong conclusion that there are no real prophets, apostles or pastors in our new covenant time frame. They are teaching that we don't need pastors, teachers or leaders, which goes directly contrary to the Holy Scriptures. It becomes a form of rebellion. Their attempt to come out of "Babylon" is actually leading them into another Babylon of false doctrine. The same is true with music.

It is true that we must abstain from wicked music such as that of Michael Jackson, Madonna, Elvis Presley, Beetles, ACDC, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Kiss, Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, Nirvana, Deerhunter, Vampire Weekend, "Against Me", and many others! We must be careful to not embrace artists that have openly blasphemed Jesus Christ as did John Denver and many others. We don't want to accept the music of people who are satanic, atheist, demonic, homosexual or blasphemous. This is very clear.

But many people are jumping to a wrong conclusion that the only music that we can listen to is only Gospel Music/songs. That is going overboard and is legalism. There is nothing wrong with singing about or listening to music about love, life, culture, relationships, memories, etc. What makes a lot of secular music that is out there today wrong is not that it's not Gospel, but because it's blatantly satanic or antichrist, or there is a satanic energy about the music. But if an artist who is not satanic sings a song that is not satanic, there is nothing wrong with listening to it. Most people do not have the discernment to know whether a song is satanic or not. Most people are blind and are in darkness and cannot tell the difference between light and dark. But people's ignorance does not make all music and all songs satanic. A song is not satanic just because it talks about love, or their first love, or relationships, family, culture, etc. What makes a song satanic can be the vibration/chords, subliminal messages, or lyrics that are sinful such as lyrics which promote homosexuality, abortion, murder, hate, rebellion, etc.

God doesn't expect us to be literally worshipping Him every second of the day. He doesn't expect us to literally crucify the flesh, cut ourselves or whip the flesh into submission by legalistic mannerisms. It is fully acceptable to enjoy ourselves, enjoy food, enjoy a drink, enjoy music, enjoy a board game, enjoy swimming, enjoy sitting out in the sun, sun bathing, hiking, exercising, etc. There is nothing wrong with a person drinking a beer (See proof) and nothing wrong with a man having his shirt off in public (see proof). We have liberty to enjoy life! In the time of the Apostle Paul, there were religious people in Colossians 2:16-23 who though that they attained a higher degree of Holiness by neglecting the pleasures of the flesh, i.e. alcohol, feasts, sabbaths, celebrations, etc. Paul warned against such legalism and encouraged the Saints to exercise their liberty. We can do things that are not focused upon Him every second of the day. Even when all things are fulfilled and we are in the Fullness of The Kingdom of God, we are not going to be worshipping Him 24/7. We are not robots and we do have the freedom to enjoy life to its fullness but without sin. It is not a sin to listen to or sing a song about life. As long as the lyrics and chords are not dark, antichrist or satanic and as long as that artist is not satanic/blasphemous or a danger to your soul.

I know that Jesus used Bluegrass music to bring me to where He wanted me to be. I know that He does not condemn every bluegrass song every written. He also does not condemn every country song every written. I enjoy bluegrass, country and even some soft rock such as what you would hear on a typical radio program of "Delilah", even though she herself is not a true Christian and her doctrines are antichrist, I am not really promoting her program but pointing to the type of music that she plays on air, that most of it is clean, acceptable soft rock music, such as innocent love songs.

I have a very strong and special relationship with Jesus Christ. He has used me to proclaim some very major revelations & prophecies for the end times. I know His voice and no other will I follow! I know that He has not condemned me for listening to the music that I listen to. I am extremely careful about what/who I listen to. I have thrown away CD's and tapes of artists that I previously listened to. I abstain from many artists/groups that other people do not comprehend are satanic such as Elvis. Elvis was one of my favorites, but then I learned that he was an occultist and was in extreme darkness. Therefore I had to throw away everything that I had that he had recorded.
I also used to love Dolly Parton. But then I came to realize how antichrist she is. She is very hypocritical as she supports homosexual sin while she condemns Christians for speaking out against the sin of homosexuality. There is no way that I can support such an antichrist person and so I threw away all of her stuff. I also will no longer listen to Tim McGraw due to his support of wicked Obama, or to Carrie Underwood due to her support of homosexual marriage. I also refuse to listen to "Little Big Town" and many others.

So, I know all about making sacrifice and coming out of the world. I know all about giving up worldly idols. But to say that all music is evil except gospel, that's just going overboard and being legalistic. We cannot come out of this world, but rather only out of sin and sinful behaviors. It is not a sinful behavior to sing/dance/laugh or to relax or enjoy ourselves. Just because "the world" does it, doesn't automatically mean it's got to be wrong. The world also puts on their pants one leg at a time, that doesn't mean that we shouldn't do the same. The world uses forks and spoons. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't do the same. The world laughs. That doesn't mean that we should never laugh. Something is only a sin when it goes against the laws of God (the ones that were not done away with the old covenant) or goes against the Will of God or against the Spirit of God. Singing about life does not do any of these things as long as the lyrics and chords are acceptable.

There are a ton of bluegrass songs that are clean and acceptable. Not all bluegrass. But there is plenty of bluegrass that is acceptable. There are also tons of classical music, soft rock and country songs that are acceptable. The artists are not 100% perfect and yes they are in Babylon as we all once were. But the following artists are not satanic and neither is their music.

Small sample of country songs that I fully believe are acceptable to Jesus:

I write this article in the hopes of the edification and correct doctrine of the body of Christ until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love. Ephesians 4:13-16 (NASB)

God has given us liberty which is to be used in contradiction to the spirit of legalism. Such liberty is not license to sin, but it is license to live and not be under the law (under bondage & legalism of the letter of the law without exercising the spirit of the law). I hope that one day in the Great Tribulation, that I will be with other brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ relaxing around a nice campfire and there will be someone playing a guitar and we will be singing both gospel songs and some good ole country music and bluegrass!
